Shu-Ya Chen

I am currently an Associate Research Fellow at the Global Atmospheric Observations and Data Applications Research Center, National Central University. My research focuses on the applications and assimilation of GNSS radio occultation (RO) data (e.g., FORMOSAT-3/COSMIC and FORMOSAT-7/COSMIC-2), with an emphasis on tropical cyclogenesis and typhoon forecast improvement over the western North Pacific. I have developed a one-dimensional variational (1DVAR) retrieval system to generate atmospheric temperature and humidity profiles from RO data. In recent years, I have been interested in the polarimetric radio occultation (PRO) data for evaluating cloud microphysics parameterizations in numerical weather prediction models. My honors include the NCU Outstanding Research Award, the Outstanding Paper Contribution Award, and the 2021 MOST FutureTech Award. Beyond publications, I focus on advancing the scientific understanding and methodological development of GNSS remote sensing and numerical prediction in the atmosphere.
